Natalia Pereira opened her Brazilian restaurant @woodspoon to create a sense of home. “Food is just fascinating. Ana Garcia, 64, (right) was part of the Operación Pedro Pan (or Operation Peter Pan) in the early 1960’s. More than 14,000 children were sent to the U.S. from Cuba by their parents after Fidel Castro rose to power. Garcia was one of those children. She was just 7 years old. Garcia stands next to her mother Rita Lamas, 92 years old. She holds a family photo which was taken one year before she left Cuba for the U.S. The people in the photo are Lamas, Garcia and her older sister, Marisela Garcia.
